Ten months in Kalamaja: thank you for bringing us your treasures

On 3 October, Lohe ja Aarded closed its doors. For ten months, one small shop on Vana Kalamaja 34 gave children's clothes a second life, and we want to tell you what you made of it.

What happened inside was down to you. 96 families brought in their children's outgrown clothes, and 3,776 items found a new home through 1,415 baskets. Sellers earned about €7,410 for the things they brought. One family brought, another bought, and the money stayed in circulation right here in Kalamaja.

We grew every month, from 96 items sold in December to 640 in just the first four days of October. Trousers and leggings were the most popular category, followed by shoes and dresses. Size 74 was the most wanted size, because babies grow the fastest.

The numbers also gave us a few surprises. Nordic brands beat fast fashion: 77% of Lindex, Reima, Po.P and Molo items sold, at an average of €7.47, while 54% of H&M, Zara and Reserved items sold, at €4.21. Pink beat blue in item names, 536 to 379. The priciest thing we sold was a car seat at €65, and our first sale, back on 7 December, was a pair of blue Zara trousers. One warm hat waited 314 days and found its owner on 30 September, in the final week.

That final week was the busiest of all. With −30% from 29 September and −50% from 2 October, the shelves emptied faster than we ever expected. We sold 777 items in six days, including 278 on the last Saturday, a shop record.

Thank you for bringing us your treasures, and for taking other people's treasures home. 194 trading days, 3,776 sales and over €20,000 stayed circulating right here in our community.
